DJ TWIKS

DJ Twiks started DJing at the age of 17, just like everyone else, in the “bedroom”. His passion for the art started back when he was 7 years old, when he went on gigs with his father, who was a DJ at the time on the “Big Island of Hawaii” (Hilo). “Touching all the buttons, looking at the lights and playing CD’s was always fun to me, especially seeing someone get excited when you play a song they like”.

In 2001 he interned for “KIKI I-94 93.9 FM” (RIP) in the Promotions Department. He took this opportunity to learn as much as he could from I-94’s Hit Mixers (Jimmy Taco, Mixmaster B, K-Smooth and DJ Edit) “DJ Edit in particular helped me a lot! He taught me all the fundamentals in radio production. I owe a lot to this guy”. A year later he started to work with Hawaii’s most successful DJ, Kutmaster Spaz as an Assistant Instructor at his “Universal DJ School”. With the help of Kutmaster Spaz he got hired as an Event DJ/Music Coordinator for Sassy & G Magazine.

In 2003 he left I-94 and got hired at KDDB 102.7 Da Bomb as a Mix Show DJ for “The Weekend Party” which aired Friday and Saturday nights. “I was like… Damn! I finally got hired!!! And I’m working with Slick Vic, Ryan Sean, DJ Euphoric and Paul Brandon! It was freaking awesome!”

Throughout his radio career he had the opportunity to open up or spin for Celebrities such as; Joe, Jagged Edge, Avant, Genuwine, Lebron James, Jade Marcella, Charmaine Star, L.A. Lakers, Mike Epps, Bruce Willis, Fantasia and much more…

In 2006, DJ’s Twiks, LX, Technique, Flykid & Lexone founded an online radio station called www.mixdoctorsradio.net which broadcasted DJ Mixes Weekly. Currently serving as the Program Director, he manages the production of weekly downloadable mixes with the addition of a few new members (DJ’s Flip, Sho and Packo). In 2011 they revamped the idea and added music, along with daily mixes in the rotation. “Our new focus is to help break more new music first. As DJ’s we have access to these songs months before radio stations throw it in rotation. I figure why not have an outlet to play music the second we receive it from the Record Labels?”
